This morning, the Bit was playing in her room while I tried to wake up enough to get her dressed and ready for the day. One of our cats, Bina, was sitting on my lap, so tLD wandered over to pet her. She played (nicely) with the cat for a minute and then decided that her Uniqua doll needed to pet the cat. And, of course, because tLD narrates everything, the following running commentary accompanied the petting:

"You're petting the cat."
"You're petting the cat with your hand."
"You're petting the cat with your Uniqua."
"She's petting the cat with her hand. And now with her other hand."
"She's petting gentle!"

Uniqua also had to drink my tea last night, sit with tLD at the breakfast table this morning, and help the Bit wake up [livejournal.com profile] touchstone. Very busy Uniqua.

It was a really really nice weekend. Adorable children, good friends and fantastic weather make for a happy me. This post is all about the weekend and mundane personal stuff, but stay tuned for a rant/politics post on Universal Health Coverage.

The cats have gone psycho. How odd.

On Saturday, the baby fussed.

It seems like this should be the introduction to a surrealist play or modern novel, but instead it is a five word summary of a very frustrating day. tLD was cranky on Saturday for some inexplicable reason. She's getting over a wicked cold, and I suspect that was part of it, but as she can't really communicate beyond "whaaa!" it's hard to know details. She may be teething. She may be sick. She may have just gotten up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. When we finally put her to bed on Saturday evening, both [livejournal.com profile] touchstone and I were worn out.

Still, we had a good dinner with [livejournal.com profile] forestblend, [livejournal.com profile] smith_hammer and the rebellious iguana family. We had to leave earlier than I would have liked, but we don't really want to inflict Fussy Baby on anyone we don't utterly have to.

Yesterday she was much happier. I managed to sneak in a few errands in the morning. The cats needed their love and attention in the form of a new water fountain, new scratching post and a new feathered toy, and I needed to get some speaker cable. Hopefully tonight I can run the cable and maybe get the house a little straighter upstairs. There are many many books that need to go to their homes, and I should do some filing as well. Minor goals, but still goals.

I still need to decide about my high school reunion. Comments from the peanut gallery? Should I go? Stay? I am indecisive lass.
